It`s triangular fight in Andhra Pradesh

The State of Andhra Pradesh is all set to witness a triangular fight in the forth coming polls that are simultaneously being held to the Assembly as well as to the Lok Sabha in the month of April this year. The polls for 294 Assembly seats and 42 Lok Sabha constituencies are scheduled to be conducted on April 16 and 23 simultaneously.

Major part of the State, in all likelihood, will witness a three-corned contest the main players in the battle being the ruling Congress, the Maha Kutami (Grand Alliance) – a composition of different parties having opposite ideologies coming under a single umbrella -- and the eight-month-old Praja Rajyam Party(PRP) established by Tollywood hero Chiranjeevi.

The BJP has only limited presence in the State. In fact, the party has a lone member in the outgoing House and the BJP is not hoping much on The State. The Lok Satta of former IAS officer Jayaprakash Narayan too will have its presence in the elections.

The Ruling party, Congress is confident about coming back into power because of welfare programs launched by Dr. Rajasekhar Reddy over the past five years The Grand Alliance composed of Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and Democrats (CPI & CPI(M)) making an attempt to project the reign of Congress as most corrupt and Telangana issue as a vote winning agenda. Though PRP is a new party, emerging as a major player in the contest. The merging of Nava Telangana Party (NTP) formed by Devender Goud, former TDP minister might help PRP to get a major base in Telangana and thus can have a hope of winning few seats in the region. However, the denial of issuing common symbol by the Central Election Commission might turn out to be a major problem for PRP.

In order to know the results and to conclude which parties manifesto will win over the people, we need to hold the suspense until the counting of votes that are scheduled to take place on 16th May 2009.
